Why virtual works

Remote Psychiatry That Delivers

A video consultation with the right specialist is more useful than a long wait for an in-person appointment with the wrong one.

01

Families outside Dublin or without easy access to a specialist clinic can attend from home, with no travel, no parking, and no waiting rooms.

02

Psychiatric assessment is well-suited to video — the core work is clinical interview, history-taking, and observation of behaviour, all of which translate well to a secure screen.

03

The same consultant throughout — from first enquiry to report and any follow-up. No handoffs, no re-explaining your child's history to a different person.

04

Available within a week for suitable families — the timeline is not determined by geography or the need to travel to a specific clinic location.

05

Confidential and professionally secure — the same standards of clinical confidentiality apply as they would for any in-person consultation.

06

Follow-up appointments work just as well remotely — medication monitoring, progress reviews, and clinical check-ins are all delivered through the same secure video pathway.

What Happens at Each Stage

Before the appointment

Enquiries are reviewed for suitability before booking. For a Child & Adolescent ADHD Assessment (€1,500) or Adult ADHD Assessment (€1,200), an enquiry may come from a parent or carer, school, GP, or an age-appropriate young person. The separate €500 Medication Review is only for a young person who already has a documented diagnosis from another clinician. Families may be asked for existing reports, school information, current medication details, or relevant clinical correspondence so the consultation can be used well.

  • Enquiry is reviewed for clinical suitability
  • Relevant reports or school information may be requested
  • Appointment confirmed for the appropriate consultation type
After the appointment

Reports, school letters, or agreed prescriptions are arranged after the session as appropriate to the consultation type. The same consultant remains responsible for the clinical work and any planned follow-up.

  • Written clinical report with findings and full reasoning
  • School support letter where relevant
  • Prescription sent to your nominated pharmacy if agreed
  • Same consultant for any planned follow-up

During the consultation

What the Consultant Does

The consultant meets with the parent or guardian and young person by video. Privacy matters: families should join from a quiet room with a stable connection and enough time to speak without interruption.

Structured clinical interview with parent and young person
Standardised rating scales and assessment tools
Developmental history and contextual information
Review of any reports or school information provided
Consideration of differential explanations
Agreed next steps and follow-up plan

Privacy & Security

Video consultations are conducted over a secure connection, and the same confidentiality standards apply as they would for any clinical consultation. Families are advised to join from a private, quiet space to protect their own confidentiality during the appointment.

This is a scheduled outpatient service and is not appropriate for emergencies, acute risk, or situations requiring immediate in-person assessment. If there is immediate danger, call 112 or 999 or attend the nearest emergency department.

Clinical continuity

Why Families Choose Prowise Clinic

Consultant psychiatry, not screening

Every consultation is conducted personally by a Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist. Not a junior assessor or a screening-only service.

Written outcomes you can use

Reports are written for school, RACE, DARE, and wider clinical support. A school letter is included where relevant.

No travel required

Families across the Republic of Ireland attend from home. The clinical relationship stays personal, confidential, and continuous.
