The consultant's job after a diagnosis is not to hand a family a generic plan and move on. It's to discuss the options honestly, including what each involves practically, and agree an approach that's realistic for this specific child and family.
Medication is one of several options discussed after a confirmed ADHD diagnosis. It is never automatic — some families choose not to pursue it, and that is a clinically valid decision that the consultant can support with practical alternatives. Where medication is agreed, it is prescribed only following a full discussion of benefits, possible side effects, and monitoring requirements. The plan belongs to the family, not the consultant.
